Snow Day

it SNOWED this morning! only a little, it didn't stick or anything... but I knew it was coming, so I set my alarm a little earlier than usual. I decided it would be worth it to forgo half an hour of sleep in favor of enjoying my favorite weather that I haven't seen in probably nine months! we took the longest possible walk to the subway to enjoy it. :) one of my favorite memories from last winter in New York was the blizzard in February... some friends and I got snowed in at my old apartment and we played board games, drank wine, snuck onto the roof to made snow angels... those kinds of nights are my favorite, and I'm looking forward to hopefully getting a couple nights like that this year. I know I'm jumping the gun a bit, and this morning's snow fall is long gone now, but I've collected some beautiful snowy pictures that are getting me excited for what's to come this winter.

Closing Out My Open Tabs...

a few internet items that  caught my eye this week:

1) this article by Annie Clark (St. Vincent) on Arcade Fire's new album Reflektor in The Talk House... so good. this website is really cool. it's a place for established musicians to talk about/review the work of other established musicians and start a dialogue... it makes musicians seem more like real people and less like imaginary people from my dreams.

2) I know Halloween is over, but I think these DIY Skull Bookends by The Band Wife would be amazing on a shelf year-round. they're on my to-do list!

3) I'm really excited to join  Swapdom! it's brand new, so you start on the wait list, but once they let you join, you're able to list articles of clothing you want to get rid of and exchange them for somebody else's (like-new) clothing items that you like! seems like a dream, and perhaps I won't have to spend any more hours of my life waiting in line to sell clothes at Buffalo Exchange with minimal results.

4) obsessed with this Wolf Mitten DIY by The Paper Mama. I think I might have to adjust them to make it a fox face and then recreate it for myself this winter. (i suppose they're meant for children, but I've never let that stop me before...)

5) I'm a sucker for a good photo project and this 2013 Timelapse video by Matthew Vandeputte is pretty phenomenal.

have a wonderful weekend!

Etsy Finds

1) i feel like tea or coffee would just taste better if it was poured out of this vintage mint coffee pot.

2) i don't believe i've ever sent anyone a Happy Halloween card, but with stationery like this by RocketInk, don't you think we should all start?

3) these amazing Wes Anderson-themed notebooks shall be mine someday.

4) i'm in love with these skull planters for Halloween or any time of year, really.

5) i'm a big fan of the Etsy shop I'm Your Present, especially around Halloween. i got my pumpkin romper costume from her a couple years ago, which i absolutely love. her Candy Corn costume is pretty much the cutest thing i've ever seen and i'm regretting not ordering it sooner and wearing it this year!

Some Favorite Pins

i am really into Pinterest, you guys.  it's kind of the perfect resource for someone like me who has spent her whole life trying to figure out a way to compile all of her favorite ideas and images. i'm not much of a scrapbooker and i always end up losing recipes and magazine clippings if i try to keep them somewhere to look at later. so when i discovered this glorious website, everything changed for me, organization-wise! (well, i'm still working on it, but it's a great start.) some of my favorite things to find on Pinterest are recipes for gorgeous looking food, adorable and inspiring DIYs, home decor ideas, and just generally beautiful photographs. here are some of the best pins i've found on there recently:

The Fiddle Leaf Fig

i'll be honest... i have a bit of a house plant addiction.  one plant that i'm constantly dreaming about having in my home is the Fiddle Leaf Fig. they are gorgeous and big and leafy and perfect. i'm still spending too much time and effort trying to keep all of our succulents and air plants and various other little plants alive that i might not be ready for the responsibility of one of these big guys. they take a lot of special care, but i think it's worth it? i guess it's kind of like getting a dog, which is another dream in this house... they're beautiful and would bring us so much joy, but are we ready to take on the responsibility?? stay tuned and expect lots of pictures of our future dog and/or fig tree.
